How to create a Home Page (Blogger)

A few weeks back I got an email from the lovely Bryleigh, asking me how to make a homepage - something to welcome her readers and direct them toward the right path, whether it be to her services or blog posts.

For an example of a minimal homepage, go to my home url ( and take a look around. That's an example of a home page, and I'm going to show you the basics of creating one. :)

Before making any changes, please make sure you've downloaded your template to your computer. This tutorial is for those who have a fair knowledge of CSS. If you would like to create a home page, but don't want to go through the hassle of learning code, please contact me so we can discuss building a home page for your site today. Decide What You Want Before you can design your homepage, you'll need to have an idea of what you want it to look like. Sketching it out or coming up with a clear vision of it in your head will help create an end product that fits your…

PLEASE INTRODUCE YOURSELF, AND TELL US A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT YOU AND YOUR BLOG. I'm Bryleigh. I'm 15, the oldest of six, and a redhead. My blog is A Little Yarn Blossom, and at A Little Yarn Blossom you will find me blasting society, fangirling over bands, soaking in life and hanging with my Blossoms!

WHEN DID YOU START YOUR BLOGGING JOURNEY AND WHY? I started my blogging journey in November of 2013, three weeks after my 14th birthday. I met my friend Emily on the knit and crochet community Ravelry. Soon after becoming friends with her, I found her blog. I knew instantly that blogging is something that I needed to delve into.

WHAT'S THE MOST CHALLENGING ASPECT OF BLOGGING FOR YOU? Oh gosh! I think for me it would be wording each post. It usually takes me two - three days to write, edit and revise a big post.

How To Make Photos Fade on Hover

Today's post comes to you from the depths of my blogger archive. Please enjoy this revived tutorial. :)

Here's whatcha gotta do: 1. Log into your blogger account and select the blog in which you'd like to customize. 2. Go to Template >> Customize >> Add CSS and paste the below code into the box.
3. Customize, save your changes and voila! You're done.

img:hover { opacity: .4; }
To customize the transparency: The number in red (see above) decides how transparent your photo is on hover. The numbers range from .9 to .1 (as you decrease the number, the transparency becomes more, well, transparent).
I chose .4 in the example above because I consider it a good medium transparency. ;)
Need help? Leave a comment below! I love hearing from my readers. :)

Ask Self Known // 002

Hello my fabulous friends! How is everyone on this wonderful day? :)
Today's answers are brought to you by Blogger and caffeine. Let's begin, shall we? ;)

1. Hi! I saw the first question in this post (referring to the last advice column post), and made me wonder, where do I put the code? I never know where to put the codes for things. If you have a Blogger blog, you can add CSS codes by going to Template >>> Customize >>> Advanced >>> Add CSS. Paste your codes into the box and watch your blog be transformed! Make sure to save your changes. :)

2. How do you get the little icon or picture for blogger, as in if you look at the tab you can replace the blogger sign with an image? I believe you are referring to what is called a favicon.
To change it you'll need a square photo less than 100KB in size (or else it won't upload).
Now, to add your new favicon, go to your blog's layout and at the top, in the left hand corner there should be a gadget …

Expression // 019

I am sorry.

But you've hurt me too.

You think I don't care, but the reality is I've cared so much it's made me numb. I shouldn't feel numb. When you're numb, you can't smile. You can't laugh or dance. You sit there, waiting for God (or the dentist) to come to you and pull you out of it. To shock you. Give you some of the feeling back.

I'm done being numbed.

Done waiting for the shock.

With you, I did things without thinking. It was all a haze. Cycle.

The toxic cycle.

Now it's real life again. It's genuine connections and hardships that are worth it. It's dreaming big without being held back. It's finding the right path that will lead me out of the woods. Alone.

I'm new.

It's real.

Ask Self Known // 001

Hello my fabulous readers. Today we are going to start off the new biweekly addition to Self Known called, Ask Self Known (if you come up with a better name to call this, feel free to comment below!).

I'd like to take a moment to thank all the people who sent in questions. I got more responses than I expected, so I feel very blessed that you guys support me and believe in me enough to allow me to give you advice. I love helping people and with the start of this new series, I hope to do just that.

Now let's get started! :)

1. Hey, Rose! I have a (Blog) designing question, actually, as usual...I want to put a colored bar across the top of my blog, stretched to the edges for my pages. But I haven't figured it out for sometime, even with Google's and another web designer's help- I thought maybe you might know what to do? If I understand your question correctly, I think the CSS code you'll want to apply to your blog is:
body { border-top: solid 10px yellow; }
If not…

What makes you happy?

What makes you happy?

Caffeine at six in the morning? Whipped yogurt that tastes like key lime pie? Water sipped from your favorite glass?

How about that book you read? The one with the ending that made you cry.

When I ask this question, and when you ask yourself this question, you should be sitting down on your bed, or holed up in a cozy corner. You should be lying awake at night, studying the ceiling full of faintly glowing sticker stars your parents put up there for you when you were six. You should be ready to close your eyes and get deep with yourself. You should be prepared to roll onto your left side, then your right side, then roll onto your back before shifting onto your belly.

You should want to know the answer.

"What makes me happy?"

When pursuing happiness, you have to want it. You have to want it with a fiery passion. You have to be willing to step out of your comfort zone - away from your fear - and into what's right for you. Whatever that may be.

Delve Into Me: A Close Look at the Bloggers You Love (010)

PLEASE INTRODUCE YOURSELF, AND TELL US A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT YOU AND YOUR BLOG. Hi everyone! My name is Kaci Jade Stevens, my blog is called Kaci Jade purely because of the fact it is my middle name and everyone seems to love it! My blog is based around beauty, fashion and lifestyle but I like to throw in the odd skincare or review post too.

WHEN DID YOU START YOUR BLOGGING JOURNEY AND WHY? I actually started my blogging journey on the 28th of September 2014 last year when I had absolutely no clue what I was doing, you could probably picture how well that one turned out, and I only recently decided to refresh my blog and give it a new name, look and feel. I took up blogging as I am a talker, that's a given, and especially when it comes to beauty related topics I just will not stop talking, blogging is a place where I can go on and on and anyone can read the content I write, if they want to, and hopefully enjoy it. To me, that's what makes my whole blogging experience worth …
